Skopelos rewards slow exploration. The island's primary attractions are its extraordinary pine forests, its string of beaches, its monasteries perched on wooded hillsides, and the medieval town itself with its whitewashed lanes and 360 churches. The Agios Ioannis Chapel on its dramatic sea-rock is the famous Mamma Mia location. The Skopelos Town Kastro commands views over the whole harbor. For the monasteries, the circuit of Evangelistria and Timios Prodromos takes a half-day.
