Argassi Bridge

The Argassi Bridge is a short, three-arched stone bridge sitting partly in the water at the edge of the resort beach. It is often called Venetian, though the surviving structure is usually associated with the 19th-century coastal road. Either way, it is the one sight in Argassi that feels older than the holiday strip around it.

Go early or near sunset, when the light is softer and the beach is less busy. The bridge is small and needs only a few minutes, but the setting is good for photographs: weathered stone, shallow blue water, and the low coast running north toward Zakynthos Town.

A story
The bridge once carried the coastal road, but erosion and shoreline change left its arches standing in the shallow sea. It is a small reminder that Zakynthos has been repeatedly rebuilt around earthquakes, storms, and a coastline that does not stay put.
