Argassi

Busy Zakynthos beach resort just south of the island capital, with tavernas, boat trips, and a half-submerged bridge.

Argassi is the easiest beach-resort add-on to Zakynthos City: close enough for dinner in the capital, but with its own strip of tavernas, bars, boat desks, and sunbeds along the southeast coast. It is not the prettiest village on Zakynthos, and in high summer the main road can feel more functional than charming, but it is convenient, lively, and well placed for short trips around the island.

The beach is narrow rather than spectacular, with shallow water and views back toward Zakynthos Town and the Peloponnese. The small landmark everyone notices is the Argassi Bridge, a three-arched stone bridge now standing partly in the sea. It is a modest sight, but it gives the resort a sense of age that many purpose-built beach strips lack.

Argassi works best if you want a base rather than a hideaway. Zakynthos City is about 5 km north, the turtle beaches of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos are a short drive south, and the Skopos hillside behind the resort gives the coast a surprisingly wild backdrop.

Guide

Getting Around

The resort strip is walkable, with most restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and beach access points along or just off the main road. Traffic can be irritating in high season, so walking is often easier than making short hops by car.

For Zakynthos Town, Kalamaki, Vasilikos, or the turtle beaches of Laganas Bay, use a taxi, local bus, scooter, or rental car. Boat trips are sold along the waterfront and usually cover the southern coast, Marathonisi, or the Keri Caves.

Getting There

Argassi is about 5 km south of Zakynthos Town and roughly 7 km from Zakynthos International Airport. Taxis are the simplest way in, especially with luggage; the ride from the port or airport is short and usually inexpensive by island standards.

Local buses run between Zakynthos Town and the southeast coast in season, but service is thin outside summer. If you plan to visit beaches beyond the resort strip, rent a car or scooter for at least a day.
