Pécs is about 200 kilometres south of Budapest. Direct trains run from Budapest Keleti station, taking around three hours. The InterCity services are faster and more comfortable; book in advance for the best fares. The Pécs railway station is at the eastern edge of the old town, about a 10-minute walk from Széchenyi Square.
By car, take the M6 motorway south from Budapest toward Pécs — the journey takes about two and a half hours in normal traffic. The M6 reaches the city from the north and east. There is a car park near the town hall and several others on the edge of the pedestrian zone. Pécs also has a regional bus station for connections to smaller towns in Baranya county and across the border into Croatia.
