Getting Around

Höfn itself is a compact town and entirely walkable. The harbour, the restaurants, the supermarket, and the golf course are all within fifteen minutes of each other on foot. The puffin islet at Hafnarholmi is a short walk from the town centre.

Everything outside town requires a car. Stokksnes and Vestrahorn are about fifteen kilometres east along a gravel road; the glacier hike and ice cave departure points are an hour or more to the west. Some guesthouses can arrange transfers to glacier tour pick-up points, and the tour operators often offer pick-ups from town accommodation, but flexibility requires your own vehicle. In summer, bicycles can be rented in town — a good option for the flat coastal roads around Höfn, less practical for the rougher tracks leading to the glacier.
