Getting There

Hveragerði is 45 km east of Reykjavík on Route 1, Iceland's main ring road. By car the drive takes about 35–40 minutes. Strætó public buses run from the BSÍ bus terminal in Reykjavík to Hveragerði several times daily; the journey takes about 45 minutes and costs around 1,000 ISK.

The town is a natural first stop on the South Coast route from Reykjavík — Selfoss and Þórsmörk are both easily reached from here, making Hveragerði a useful base for exploring the south if you prefer to avoid Reykjavík prices.
