The best way to explore Inis Mór is by bicycle. The island is nine miles long with a single main road running west from Kilronan along the north shore, supplemented by a network of narrow lanes and tracks across the limestone interior. Bikes are available for hire from multiple shops at Kilronan pier — you'll see them immediately when you get off the ferry.
The main road west to Dún Aonghasa takes about thirty minutes each way by bike, passing stone walls, wildflowers, and the occasional donkey. Side tracks lead south to the cliff tops, north to beaches, and across the island's plateau to the smaller forts and churches. Give yourself at least half a day on the bike to cover the main sights; a full day if you want to reach the quieter western end and the Seven Churches. The terrain is flat to gently rolling. In summer, pony traps also offer an alternative for those who prefer not to cycle.
