Kilronan (Cill Rónáin) is the main settlement on Inis Mór and the first thing you see when the ferry arrives. It is a small harbour village with a pier, a cluster of pubs, restaurants, craft shops, and the bicycle rental outlets that are essential to exploring the island. Most of the island's accommodation is in or near Kilronan.
The village has a pleasant unhurried character outside peak season. In summer it gets busy with day-trippers from Galway, but the island absorbs them more than you'd expect. The Aran Heritage Centre (Ionad Árann) near the pier has a permanent exhibition on island life, traditional crafts, and the Irish language, and screens Robert Flaherty's 1934 documentary Man of Aran — a classic of ethnographic filmmaking that romanticises island life somewhat but captures the landscape and the fishing with extraordinary force.
