Things to Do

Kilronan is the main village on Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Islands, and your base for everything. Hire a bike from one of the shops near the ferry pier and you can cover most of the island in a day. The road west leads to Dún Aonghasa, the main reason most people come; everything else you find along the way is a bonus.

The island rewards slow travel. The landscape is almost entirely limestone pavement — flat grey rock fractured into thousands of slabs, with flowers growing in every crack in spring. The prehistoric forts, the early Christian churches, and the sea are the highlights. Bring a waterproof regardless of the forecast.
