Henry Street is the main shopping thoroughfare on Dublin's north side, pedestrianised and lined with major retailers, department stores, and a covered market. Arnotts department store, a Dublin institution since 1843, anchors the east end of the street; the Ilac Centre and Jervis Shopping Centre provide more covered retail.
Henry Street has a different character from Grafton Street — more downmarket, busier, and more genuinely local. Moore Street, the famous open-air market, runs parallel and offers a vivid contrast to the chain stores a few metres away.
