Slieve Foy

Highest summit on the Cooley Peninsula, with steep walks above Carlingford Lough.

Slieve Foy is the big hill above Carlingford and the most satisfying outdoor target on the Cooley Peninsula. From Dundalk it works as a proper day out rather than a casual stroll: the slopes rise quickly from the lough, and in clear weather the views take in Carlingford, the Mournes, and the narrow water between Louth and Down.

The hill is best for travellers who want a walk with a sense of place, not just a viewpoint reached by car. Weather can close in fast, paths can be wet, and the upper ground is exposed, so bring sensible footwear and navigation. Finish in Carlingford if you want the mountain to lead naturally into food and a pint.
