Craggaunowen

Open-air archaeological park near Ennis, with reconstructed early Irish dwellings and a crannog.

Craggaunowen is an open-air heritage park east of Ennis, built around reconstructions of early Irish dwellings, a ring fort, a crannog, and displays connected to prehistoric and early medieval life. It turns abstract archaeology into something walkable, which makes it especially useful for families.

The site is best visited with a car and a half-day to spare. It is not as famous as the Burren or the Cliffs of Moher, but it gives County Clare's deeper past a physical shape. Children tend to respond well to the reconstructed buildings and the sense of stepping into a story.
