Glencree German War Cemetery is a quiet, sombre place in the Wicklow Mountains above Enniskerry. It contains the graves of German military and civilian dead from both world wars, including sailors and airmen whose bodies were recovered in Ireland.
The setting does much of the work: dark stone crosses, mountain air, and the enclosed Glencree valley. It is best visited with Powerscourt or a Wicklow drive, not as a cheerful attraction but as a thoughtful stop that broadens the usual Irish war-history narrative.
