Apennine Botanical Garden

The Giardino Botanico e Arboreto Appenninico is a botanical garden and arboretum maintained by the national park, located just outside the village centre. It is the most comprehensive collection of Apennine flora in the park, with species grouped by habitat — beech forest, montane meadow, rocky outcrops, riparian zones — that makes it useful as preparation before heading into the field. Labels are thorough and there is a particular focus on medicinal and traditionally used plants.

The arboretum section includes mature specimens of the tree species that dominate the park's forests: silver fir, black pine, and the great beech trees that cover the upper valleys. For anyone with a botanical interest, this is a good hour or two. For others it is a pleasant walk with benches and views. The garden is included in the park entry fee.
