Things to Do

The Costa di Maratea rewards those who come for dramatic coastline rather than classic beach resort pleasures. The best approach is to hire a boat for a day and explore the coves from the water — the sea is exceptionally clear and several beaches are inaccessible by road. On land, the medieval hilltop borgo, the towering Cristo Redentore statue on Monte San Biagio, and the network of hiking paths through the macchia scrubland provide an unhurried counterpoint to the coast below.
