Things to Do

Maratea is the only stretch of Tyrrhenian coastline in Basilicata, and the things to do here split between the historic centre on the slopes of Monte San Biagio and the beaches strung along 32 km of rocky shoreline. The town's defining sight is the towering Cristo Redentore statue on the summit of San Biagio, second only to Rio's. Below it, the Basilica of San Biagio holds relics dating to the 8th century. The pretty old town — the "city of 44 churches" — is best explored on foot, and the port is the social hub of the lower town.
