Miglionico rewards a slow afternoon rather than a rushed stop. The Norman-Swabian castle is the centrepiece — six towers, good views, and a genuinely dramatic piece of history. Below it, the Chiesa Madre di Santa Maria Maggiore holds some of the finest Renaissance stonework in rural Basilicata. The town itself, strung along its ridge, is worth a wander: quiet streets, old stone houses, and the kind of unhurried pace that has largely disappeared from more visited parts of southern Italy.
