At 589 metres, Monte Solaro is the highest point on Capri and commands the best panoramic view on the island — the entire Bay of Naples spread out to the north, Vesuvius visible on clear days, the Amalfi Coast to the east, and the open Tyrrhenian Sea to the south and west. A single-seat chairlift from Anacapri reaches the summit in about 12 minutes; the descent can also be done on foot along a well-marked path through pine forest (around 45 minutes).
At the top there is a small bar and the ruins of a medieval castle and later British fortifications. The view is best in the early morning before haze builds up. The chairlift runs year-round except in severe weather; the summit is noticeably cooler than the port — bring a layer if you visit in spring or autumn.
