The historic centre of Piacenza is compact and walkable — the distance from the Piazza dei Cavalli to the Cathedral is about 5 minutes; from the Cathedral to San Sisto about 15 minutes; from San Sisto to Santa Maria di Campagna about 20 minutes. Cycling is practical for getting between the various churches and museums.
The railway station is about 15 minutes' walk north of the city centre, or a short taxi ride. City buses run from the station to the centre. The Galleria Alberoni on the southern edge of the city is best reached by bus or taxi — about 3 km from the centre.
