Things to Do

Start at the Piazza dei Cavalli, the main square anchored by the Gothic Palazzo Gotico and the two famous equestrian statues. The Cathedral a few minutes away has one of the best Romanesque interiors in Emilia and a cupola painted by Guercino. The Palazzo Farnese museum contains the Etruscan Liver of Piacenza, one of the most unusual objects in Italian archaeology, as well as good art and an impressive carriage museum. For church art, San Sisto and Santa Maria di Campagna are both exceptional; the latter's frescoed dome by Pordenone is among the finest Renaissance frescoes in northern Italy. The Galleria d'Arte Moderna Ricci Oddi has a good collection of Italian art from the 19th and 20th centuries.
