Latina is not a city you visit for its own sake, but it has genuine character as one of the few entirely planned settlements in Italy, and its surroundings — the Circeo National Park, the coastal dunes of Sabaudia, the ancient hill towns of the Lepini mountains — make it a rewarding base. The city centre repays an hour or two of walking for anyone interested in 1930s Italian rationalist architecture.
