Getting There

Orte sits at one of the most useful railway junctions in central Italy. The main Rome–Florence line and the Rome–Ancona line cross here, which means there are frequent direct trains from Rome Termini (about 50 minutes), as well as direct services to Perugia, Spoleto, and Ancona. From the station in the valley a local bus or a short taxi ride climbs to the historic centre.

By car, Orte has its own exit on the A1 Autostrada del Sole and is signposted from the Via Flaminia. There is a small parking area just outside Porta San Cesareo at the edge of the old town; the centre itself is a ZTL (restricted traffic zone) and best explored on foot.
