Albenga's bar life centres on the historic piazza and the lanes immediately surrounding it. Aperitivo hour — roughly 6 to 8pm — is when the outdoor tables fill and the social life of the town becomes visible. The local Pigato white wine and the lighter Rossese red are the drinks of choice. Farinata, the chickpea-flour pancake baked in wood-fired ovens, is the classic bar snack and is available from street bakeries (forni) from mid-morning.
