When to Go

The Ligurian coast is pleasant year-round but best visited in spring (April–June) or early autumn (September–October), when the light is excellent, crowds are thinner, and temperatures are comfortable for walking the old town and the Via Julia Augusta path. Midsummer (July–August) brings heat, sea bathers, and Italian holiday crowds.

Albenga hosts several notable annual events. A car rally called the "Monti Savonesi" takes place in May. A Fiat 500 rally in June draws enthusiasts from across Europe. In September a fair celebrates the local Pigato wine grape. A piano festival in December brings musicians from across Italy. Throughout summer, open-air concerts run alongside local religious festivals and sagras celebrating the agricultural products of the Albenga plain.
