Chiavari's beach runs along the entire Lungomare, a mix of equipped lidos and free public sections. The sand is pale grey-brown and the water is clean and generally calm, sheltered by the curve of the Tigullio Gulf. In summer the lidos fill up fast — arrive early or pay for a sunbed to secure your spot. The free public sections are busiest in the afternoon. For a less crowded option, Lavagna across the Entella river has more beach and fewer facilities.
