The waters around the Portofino headland are among the clearest on the Ligurian coast. The reef at Punta del Faro and the wreck of the Mohawk Deer — a British cargo ship sunk in 1941 — attract divers of all levels. The Portofino Diving Centre operates year-round from the harbour and offers guided dives, equipment hire, and PADI courses. The underwater protected zone means the marine life is excellent: grouper, octopus, gorgonian fans, and in summer the occasional sunfish.
