Portofino is small enough to explore on foot in a morning. The essential walk is up to the church of San Giorgio on the lighthouse promontory, from where you get the classic view of the port and the row of coloured houses below. The Monte di Portofino Natural Park above the village is criss-crossed with easy coastal paths through Mediterranean scrub — pine, olive, myrtle, thyme — running down to secluded coves. Divers should contact the Portofino Diving Centre; the underwater reef around Punta del Faro and the wreck of the Mohawk Deer are highlights.
