Torre Leon Pancaldo

Torre Leon Pancaldo, often just called La Torretta, marks the old harbour entrance and is Savona’s most familiar landmark. The medieval tower stands where the port, the promenade, and Via Paleocapa meet, making it a natural starting point for a walk into town.

It is named for Leon Pancaldo, the Savonese navigator who sailed with Magellan’s expedition. The tower itself is compact, but its position gives it real presence: ships behind it, arcaded streets ahead, and the city’s maritime history compressed into a single stone marker.
