When to Go

Savona's Ligurian climate means mild winters and warm, dry summers. July and August bring beach crowds to the coast on either side of the city, making parking and accommodation more expensive and the town busier. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable months for exploring the old centre and the fortress.

Unlike Cinque Terre, Savona does not fill up entirely in summer — it remains primarily a working port city rather than a tourist resort, so even in August you can usually find space in a restaurant and walk the streets without fighting crowds. The ferry connections to Corsica and Sardinia are most active in summer.
