Getting Around

San Donato Milanese is small enough to explore on foot. The ENI campus, the Metanopoli neighbourhood, the old town centre, and the railway station are all within comfortable walking distance of one another. The town is flat and the streets are quiet.

On foot: Most of what is worth seeing is concentrated in the Metanopoli area and the ENI campus perimeter, which together can be covered in a half-day walk. The old village core is a short walk from Metanopoli.

By bike: The town is well-suited to cycling. The Via Emilia cycle path and connections to the Parco della Martesana cycling and walking route (which runs northwest towards Milan along the Martesana canal) make it possible to cycle into Milan in around 45 minutes. Bike sharing through the Milan ATM BikeMi network extends into the municipality.

By bus and tram: ATM (Milan's public transport authority) runs bus services connecting San Donato to neighbouring municipalities and to metro interchanges. Within the town, buses are rarely necessary given the walkable scale.

By metro (for Milan): For getting into Milan and around the wider area, the M3 terminal station at San Donato is the key link. Validate a standard Milan ATM ticket (€2, valid 90 minutes on all modes) and you have access to the entire Milan metro, tram, and bus network.
