Getting There

By train: Ancona is on the Adriatic rail line with direct connections to Bologna (roughly 2 hours), Pescara (1.5 hours), and Rome (3–4 hours via regional or intercity services). The station is at the base of the port hill, a short walk from the ferry terminals.

By ferry: Ancona is the main Italian Adriatic ferry hub. Jadrolinija serves Split and other Croatian ports; Superfast Ferries and ANEK Lines run to Patras (Greece) with connections onward to Athens; Turkish Cargo Lines and other operators serve Turkish ports. Book in advance in summer. The ferry terminal is adjacent to the train station.

By air: Ancona Falconara (AOI) is 12km north of the city and served by a handful of European routes, mostly low-cost. A shuttle bus connects it to the city center and train station. For wider connections, Bologna or Rome airports are more practical, with onward rail to Ancona.

By car: The A14 Adriatic motorway passes Ancona with several exits; driving from Rome takes around 3 hours, from Bologna around 2.5 hours.
