Piazza Alfieri is Asti’s broad civic stage, named for the playwright Vittorio Alfieri, who was born in the city. It is not the most intimate square in Piedmont, but it gives Asti room to breathe and hosts the Palio when the city turns ceremonial.
On ordinary days it is a useful orientation point between the station and the medieval centre. Cafes, porticoes, and streets leading north into the old town make it the practical start or end of a walk.
