Crypt of San Vito Vecchio

A restored rock-cut crypt known for medieval frescoes and Gravina's layered cave-church history.

The Crypt of San Vito Vecchio is a small but memorable part of Gravina in Puglia's cave landscape. Cut into the tufa outside the old centre, it preserves the atmosphere of the rupestrian churches that made worship, shelter, and burial part of the same underground world.

Its main draw is the surviving medieval fresco cycle, which gives the crypt more than local-interest value. Pair it with the ravine viewpoints and the old quarter: together they make Gravina feel less like a single monument and more like a town built in layers, above and below ground.
