Gravina rewards visitors who take time to wander — the ravine, the cave churches, the baroque centre, and the aqueduct bridge each tell a different chapter of a very long history. The town sits on the edge of the Alta Murgia plateau, and the dramatic limestone gorge that gives it its name is the thing that sets it apart from other Apulian towns of similar size.
Most of what matters is within walking distance of the old town. Plan for at least a morning to do the ravine and cave church, and an afternoon for the cathedral, the museum, and the upper streets. If you have more time, the bridge at the edge of town and a longer walk down into the gorge will fill a second day comfortably.
