Caffè Italiano

Caffè Italiano on Piazza d'Italia is the classic Sassari café — a large, slightly formal establishment that has been serving coffee and pastries to the city's professionals and students for generations. The coffee is excellent, the bomba pastries are first-rate, and the location on the main square makes it the best place in the city to watch the passeggiata.

It fills up at aperitivo time (6-8pm) when the Vermentino and local snacks come out, and the terrace is genuinely pleasant on warm evenings. This is the café where Sassari does its business — deals discussed, gossip exchanged, and the daily life of a real Italian provincial city played out in public.
