Getting There

Sassari is served by Alghero-Fertilia Airport (AHO), about 30 kilometres away — the airport most visitors to northwestern Sardinia use. There are budget flights from London, Barcelona, and other European cities in summer. Ryanair is the main carrier. Taxis and buses connect the airport to Sassari and Alghero.

Porto Torres, 20 kilometres northwest of Sassari, is the main ferry port for the area, with crossings to Genoa and Civitavecchia (Rome). Ferries are operated by Grimaldi, Tirrenia, and Sardinia Ferries; the overnight crossing from Genoa is the most popular.

By road, Sassari is well connected to Alghero (30 km), Olbia (110 km), and Cagliari (about 220 km). The island's highway network (A131 and SS291) makes these journeys faster than the distances suggest.
