Palazzo Calapaj-d'Alcontres is an 18th-century palazzo in central Messina and one of the few older buildings to survive the devastating 1908 earthquake. Its exterior is restrained rather than showy, but that survival alone makes it worth noticing in a city where so much historic fabric was lost.
Look for it as part of a walk between the cathedral area and Messina's surviving palaces and fountains.
