San Vito Lo Capo Beach

The main beach is a wide crescent of brilliant white sand backed by the low whitewashed buildings of the town. The water is clear and shallow for a long way out, making it excellent for swimming and snorkelling. At the northern end of the beach, the sand gives way to rocky outcrops where the snorkelling is particularly good.

Sunbed and umbrella rental is available along most of the beach in season, but there is always a stretch of free public beach at either end. The water quality is consistently high — this part of the Sicilian coast has little industry upstream and strong currents that flush the bay.

A story
The beach occupies a natural bay between the promontory of Capo San Vito and the cliffs of Monte Monaco. The brilliant whiteness of the sand comes from the local limestone: the cliffs erode slowly into the sea and the waves grind the fragments fine over centuries.
