Walther Square is Bolzano's main civic stage, framed by cafes, hotels, arcades, and the mountains beyond the old town roofs. At its centre stands the monument to Walther von der Vogelweide, a medieval German-language poet whose statue also reflects South Tyrol's layered cultural identity.
You will probably cross the square more than once while exploring Bolzano. It is best used as an orientation point: step into the cathedral, continue through the arcaded streets, or pause here to watch the city shift between Italian piazza life and Alpine market-town rhythms.
