Gambassi Terme rewards slow travel. The thermal spa is the anchor, but the town's medieval fabric and Via Francigena heritage give it historical texture, and the surrounding woodland and countryside are excellent for walking, cycling, and horse riding. The nearby San Vivaldo Monastery is one of the more unusual sacred landscapes in Tuscany.
