Marciana Marina is a small beach resort on the northern coast of Elba, grown around an old fishing village at the foot of Monte Capanne — the island's highest peak. The harbour is used by both fishing boats and pleasure yachts, giving the waterfront a pleasantly mixed character.
The resort is quieter and less developed than Portoferraio, Elba's main town, which suits visitors looking for a more relaxed base. The beach at the harbour is good, and from Marciana Marina you can take cable cars up to the summit of Monte Capanne for panoramic views across the island and toward Corsica.
From the marina, ferries run to the tiny island of Capraia (about 22 miles) and boat excursions visit the wild coastal scenery of Capo Corso on Corsica (about 30 miles). The northern coast road back toward Portoferraio passes several good coves.
