A late-sixteenth-century Medici villa perched on a hilltop above Monsummano, commissioned by Grand Duke Ferdinando I as a hunting lodge in the Valdinievole. The building, designed by Gherardo Mechini, has the typical Medici villa profile — long symmetrical façade, terraced gardens, two grand loggias — and commands sweeping views across the marshes and olive groves below.
The villa is privately owned and only opens for occasional events, so most visits are external. Walk up from the medieval village of Montevettolini, which itself is worth ten minutes of wandering for its surviving castle walls and the small parish church.
