Ristorante du Tunnel

One of the better-known restaurants in the town centre, Du Tunnel is a reliable choice for traditional Valdostan cooking in a warm, stone-walled dining room. The fondue Valdostana — made with local Fontina — is one of the best renditions in the valley, and the carbonade (beef braised in red wine) is worth ordering if it appears on the menu. The wine list is strong on Valle d'Aosta appellations, which are less well-known than they deserve to be.

The restaurant is popular with a mixed crowd of locals and visitors and gets busy on winter weekends. Booking ahead is advisable Friday through Sunday; mid-week you can usually walk in. Service is efficient rather than elaborate, which suits the mountain setting well. Prices are moderate by Courmayeur standards.
