Piazza Garibaldi

Asolo's central square with loggia, fountain, and café life

The heart of Asolo's social life, Piazza Garibaldi (also called Piazza Brugnoli) is the natural gathering point in the old town. The elegant Loggia del Capitano, now housing the Museo Civico, occupies one side; a 15th-century fountain stands at the centre. The café terraces that spill out under the arches on a fine afternoon are among the most pleasant places to sit in the Veneto.

The piazza is small enough to feel intimate but grand enough to feel like somewhere. The mix of frescoed facades, arched walkways, and Asolo's characteristic steep-climbing streets gives a sense of a town that has aged well without trying too hard to please tourists.
