Isola della Scala

Isola della Scala sits at the junction of two canals on the flat plain west of the Adige. Its castle dates from 1011, making it one of the oldest in the region, though the current structure is largely medieval and has seen many owners since the first fortification. The town is better known today for the Fiera del Riso — the Rice Fair — held every September. This is Italy's largest rice fair, celebrating the vialone nano rice grown in the paddies around the town. The fair runs for several weekends and draws visitors from across the Veneto for tastings, markets, and cooking competitions.
