Valle Vecchia is a 900-hectare reclaimed area between Bibione and Caorle, with farmland, woodland, a long undeveloped beach and the surrounding lagoon. It was created in the 1960s when the channels were drained for agriculture, but a large part has since been let go back to nature and now supports herons, egrets, marsh harriers and migrating waders.
A network of cycle paths and birdwatching hides crosses the area, with a small visitor centre at the entrance. It is reachable by bike from Bibione in an hour or so, or by car. The beach at the far end is one of the wildest on the upper Adriatic — no concessions, just sand and dune.
