At the western tip of the Cavallino peninsula — at the entrance to the Venetian Lagoon — a 48-metre brick lighthouse marks the point where the Adriatic meets the lagoon waters. Built in 1872, it is still in service, and the surrounding pinewoods and beaches form a quieter alternative to the busy Jesolo strip.
You can drive to within a few hundred metres of the lighthouse, or arrive by ferry from Venice. The tower itself is not regularly open, but the walk along the dyke at sunset, with cruise ships and tankers tracking past on their way into Venice, is one of the better quiet pleasures of the area.
