Peschiera's position makes day trips easy. Verona is 25 km away and reachable by frequent trains in under 20 minutes — a full day in the city of Romeo and Juliet, the Arena, and excellent restaurants. Sirmione is the other tourist headline on the lake, with its castle and Roman ruins. Borghetto sul Mincio and Valeggio are along the cycle path that follows the Mincio south; both are pretty villages and Borghetto is famous for its tortellini. Mantova is further south but the train connections work, and the medieval centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
