Parco Giardino Sigurtà

Parco Giardino Sigurtà is a 600,000-square-metre landscape garden in the moraine hills above the Mincio river, about 8 km south of Peschiera. Created from a former agricultural estate, the park is laid out with ornamental ponds, a labyrinth, a giant rose garden of 30,000 plants, an avenue of cypresses, and a famous spring tulip display that draws around half a million visitors each March and April.

The park is open from March to early November. A circuit on foot takes around two hours; rented golf carts and small trains move people around for those with less energy. Spring is the spectacular season, but the rose garden peaks in May and June, and the autumn maples in October are nearly as impressive.

A story
The land was farmed for centuries and used as a hunting reserve before pharmacist Carlo Sigurtà bought it in 1941 and began converting it into a garden. His nephew Giuseppe completed the transformation over forty years, planting an estimated million tulip bulbs, eighteen ornamental ponds, and avenues of cypresses, oaks, and Japanese maples. It has been open to the public since 1978 and was named the most beautiful park in Italy in 2013.
