Rifugio Galassi sits at 2,018 metres on the western flank of Monte Antelao, roughly three to four hours above San Vito di Cadore by trail. It is the principal staging post for the two-day ascent of Antelao but draws plenty of day visitors who come simply for lunch and the views — a panorama across the Boite valley toward the Sorapiss and the pale bulk of the Marmarole range.
The hut serves the kind of food mountain huts do best: steaming bowls of pasta e fagioli, polenta with mushrooms or cheese, and good local wine at prices that seem modest after the climb. Dorm beds and a handful of double rooms are available for those staying overnight before the summit push. The trail from the valley floor follows the Val d'Oten, a beautiful wooded gorge that opens into high pasture as altitude is gained.
